Sawn timber exports via BUCE soared by 27%

02/23/2021

Exchange trades held in January 2021 saw a sizeable bump in export sales of sawn timber – up to 30.3 mln USD, which is 27% more than in January 2020.

Germany, Latvia and Lithuania were the main export markets. Residents of these countries purchased 24.4 mln USD worth of Belarusian timber. The list of major buyers also includes Azerbaijan, Estonia, the Netherlands, Poland, Slovakia, and the UK. Softwood timber was the most sought after category.

“This year we intend to continue expanding the geography of timber sales. More specifically, we are going to focus on the Chinese market. We’ve even set up a special trading session targeted at Chinese buyers that allows them to purchase Belarusian timber with delivery to the biggest seaports and railway stations in mainland China. We’ve already sold some 2.4 mln USD worth of sawn timber this way. Therefore, the skyrocketing export figures registered in January are in part a result of the growing sales in Asia and Northern Europe”, BUCE press service reported.

The next special trading session for the Chinese market will take place on March 3. The registration of buy and sell orders is already underway.
