Egyptian companies start trading on BUCE

03/03/2021

On March 2, 2021 BUCE registered the first ever transaction executed by an Egyptian company. As a result of a successful trading session, Sama Al-Jazeera for Import and Export purchased a trial batch of Belarusian sawn timber. Prior to that moment Egyptian businesses had never bought or sold anything on BUCE.

According to Mahmoud Kandil, CEO of Sama Al-Jazeera for Import and Export, the strategic goal of his company is to become the largest importer of Belarusian timber products to Egypt and possibly to other North African countries.

“This transaction proves that Egyptian companies can effectively use BUCE’s marketplace to trade with Belarusian timber manufacturers without any intermediaries. In this respect, we have become pioneers of sorts. And although it was somewhat difficult for us to harness this new instrument, we are perfectly happy with the result. Of course, it is just the first step and we intend to become the largest supplier of Belarusain sawn timber to Egypt and neighboring countries where the demand for these products is also very high”, Egyptian businessman said.

In addition, Mahmoud Kandil does not exclude the possibility of becoming BUCE’s broker someday but there is still a long way to go.
