Wood chips exports via BUCE doubled in October

11/04/2020

In October, exports of wood chips and wood waste via BUCE reached 8.8 mln USD. This is twice as much as in October 2019. The growth of export sales was driven by a 74% bump in shipments to Poland, which is traditionally the largest importer of Belarusian wood chips. In October, it accounted for more than a half of all wood chips exports. The list of top three buyers of wood chips also includes Lithuania and Estonia with monthly purchases of 3.5 and 0.5 mln USD respectively. Overall, some 55.2 mln USD worth of wood chips were exported via BUCE during January-October 2020.

A positive trend registered in October is associated with rebounding demand for wood chips in the European Union. Due to the unusually warm previous winter, a significant amount of woodchips purchased by foreign companies in 2019 was left unused. Therefore, it was only in September of 2020, when most of the stocks were depleted, that EU traders resumed their activity on BUCE
