Rapeseed oil exports via BUCE tripled in January-May

06/16/2020

Export of rapeseed oil via the Belarusian Universal Commodity Exchange (BUCE) increased by more than 3 times in January-May 2020 compared to the same period of 2019. In terms of physical volume, the turnover also tripled from 3.2 thousand tons last year to 9.3 thousand tons in 2020. The European Union countries as well as Switzerland were the main sales markets.

BUCE analysts believe that the upward trend in the exchange market of rapeseed oil is likely to remain in place up to the end of the year. The underlying factors are growth of supply from the Belarusian oil producers and wider use of BUCE’s electronic marketplace by foreign buyers.

“Along with Russia and Ukraine, Belarus is among top three rapeseed oil exporters to the EU, and while previously most of the exports were direct contracts, nowadays the increasing number of companies harness BUCE platform as a more efficient alternative to traditional distribution channels. Furthermore, BUCE is constantly attracting new buyers, which improves the competitive environment during exchange trades. As far as forecasts are concerned, the situation in the market looks quite promising for Belarusian rapeseed oil producers. With EU’s rapeseed oil output in decline due to COVID-19 pandemic, imports will most probably rise pushing the prices even higher. This is the most probable scenario, at least for the short term”, BUCE experts think.
