BUCE plans to step up interexchange cooperation within Association of Futures Markets

02/16/2018

On January 24-26, BUCE working group attended the 21st Annual Conference of the Association of Futures Markets (AFM) in Bangkok, Thailand. The event brought together CEOs and top managers of over 60 mercantile and stock exchanges, clearing houses, think tanks, and other organizations involved in exchange trade.

BUCE representatives took part in a panel discussion devoted to key factors affecting the creation and development of successful commodity markets and shared their experience of commodity trading in the Republic of Belarus. Among other things, the attendees learned about the legal framework governing the exchange trade in Belarus, the role of government in the development of this area, and measures devised to expand the exchange segment of the commodity market. Representatives of exchanges from Australia, Argentina, Hong Kong, India, Iran, Singapore, Nepal, Thailand, Taiwan and other countries also got an insight into BUCE’s bylaws and best practices, operating principles of its e-trading platforms, as well as ways of securing the fulfillment of exchange contracts and technological solutions employed.

Along with participation in panel discussions regarding the impact of globalization on regional exchanges, latest trends in spot and futures markets, new exchange instruments, and blockchain technology, BUCE experts held bilateral talks with a number of AFM members. In particular, they discussed statistical data sharing and cross-listing of commodities with Pakistan Mercantile Exchange. Furthermore, Iran Mercantile Exchange is mulling over the proposal to become BUCE’s broker in Iran, while Taiwan Futures Exchange may pay a visit to BUCE headquarters later this year. In addition, London Metals Exchange agreed to accommodate a BUCE delegation in its London office and hold talks on future collaboration.
