On June 11, a Latvian business delegation consisting of Girts Kronbergs, deputy mayor of Liepaja for tourism and investments, and Andris Spulis, CEO of Business Support Services (BUCE’s broker in Latvia).  

In the course of the talks, the sides discussed promising areas of cooperation between BUCE and Liepaja mayor’s office and particularly the development of exchange trade and related services. Among other things, Girts Kronbergs suggested using Liepaja port for delivery of Belarusian timber products to the EU. According to vice-mayor, an exchange warehouse in Liepaja port will become a good addition to the existing exchange warehouses in Riga and Kraslava.

Mr. Kronbergs also expressed interest in bolstering cooperation with BUCE in expert examination of goods purchased at electronic auctions. There are plans to implement this initiative together with the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Ekspertize LLC of the Latvian Chamber of Commerce and Industry. This way the European buyers of the Belarusian wood products will be able to verify the quality and quantity of purchased goods prior to dispatch. This service is expected to encourage consumers from Northern and Western Europe to buy raw materials via BUCE thus eliminating the need for intermediaries.

As part of the meeting, the sides also analyzed the performance of Business Support Services’ clients in the Belarusian exchange market, considered measures to boost their business activities, and looked into the way to optimize the interaction between Business Support Services and BUCE’s various business units.
