BUCE seeks closer cooperation with Latvia’s business community

03/23/2016

On March 23, BUCE head office played host to a meeting with the delegation of Latvian companies led by Girts Kronbergs, chief of the inspections department of the Latvian Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Andris Spulis, CEO of SIA Business Support Services (BUCE’s official representative in the Latvian Republic and an accredited exchange broker since March1, 2016), also attended the event.

The goal of the visit was to learn how BUCE works and discuss possible areas of cooperation. In particular, sides discussed the participation of Latvian companies in exchange auctions for logging services and studied the possibility of boosting the volume wood and timber shipped to the Latvian Republic as a result of exchange transactions.

The talks, however, were mostly focused on collaboration in exchange logistics. At present, one exchange expert and three exchange warehouses are accredited in Riga. The latter are used for delivery of goods purchased by Latvian companies via BUCE. In order to spur the development of exchange logistics and make it more attractive to market participants, in 2016-2017 BUCE plans to join forces with the Association of Exchange Logisticians and Brokers to set up an electronic platform of logistics and transportation services that may one day become a full-fledged “transportation exchange”.

At the end of the meeting, the Latvian businessmen were invited to the trading floor where they watched in real time how logging services are traded. A short Q&A session that followed afterwards concluded the visit of the Latvian delegation to BUCE headquarters.
