Metals in Belarusian Economy

A share of industry in the economy of the Republic of Belarus accounts for about one third of the gross national product. The country has highly developed automobile manufacturing industry, agricultural industry, tractor manufacturing, construction, road and municipal engineering, machine tools, instrument making industry, radio engineering industry, electronics industry and many other modern industry profiles. And all of them require huge amounts of ferrous and non-ferrous metals.

Annually the machine-building complex of the Republic consumes more than 2.5 mln tons of various metal products as a whole. The complex includes more than 100 modern enterprises and the main consumers of metals of them are presented by the industry giants MAZ, MTZ, BelAZ, Gomel and Lida Agricultural Machinery Plants, and such large enterprises of the ministries and departments as Minskenergo and Belenergostroy, Promtekhmontazh and Belaruskaliy, Naftan and Mozyr Oil Refinery that take leading positions at the exchange auctions.

There are sold 0.7 mln tons of metal products at the auctions of Belarusian Universal Commodity Exchange. The economic efficiency of exchange procurements results from the organized wholesale exchange market.

In 2016, a large share of the exchange turnover accounted for the section of metal products and it amounted to EUR 446.60 mln.
