2012.05.28 | Source: Russia’s UMMC wins tender for Yelanskoye nickel field The tender commission of Russia’s Federal Mineral Resources Agency has declared Russia’s Ural Mining and Metallurgical Company (UMMC) as the winner of the license to develop the Yelanskoye nickel deposit in the Voronezh Region, a source familiar with the situation told reporters Tuesday. The source said that the second bidder, metals giant Norilsk Nickel, refused to take part in the tender for the second nickel deposit in the Voronezh Region, Yelkinskoye. The commission previously delayed the meeting to consider applications of the participants to Tuesday from May 15. According to media reports that appeared in May, the Natural Resources Ministry was considering an auction for the licenses to develop the Yelanskoye and Yelkinskoye nickel deposits in the Voronezh Region instead of a tender. Business daily Kommersant reported in May that Norilsk Nickel, which was seen as a possible winner, was also interested in the auction, rather than in the tender. PRIME-TASS return |
