2012.06.25 | Russia’s raw sugar production falls 84.6% on year Jan 1–MonRussia produced 258,400 tonnes of sugar from raw sugar January 1 to Monday, down 84.6% compared to the same period last year, the sugar manufacturers’ trade union Soyuzrossakhar said in a statement Tuesday.
In 2011, Russia produced 1.68 million tonnes of raw sugar.
Since the beginning of 2012, sugar manufacturers processed 248,300 tonnes of raw sugar compared to 1.72 million tonnes in the same period last year. The current daily sugar production amounts to 6,900 tonnes, while consumption is at 18,000 tonnes. Last year the daily output reached 20,600 tonnes a day.
As of Monday, 11 Russian enterprises process raw sugar compared to 28 producers that were active at the same time last year, Soyuzrossakhar said.
Wholesale prices for sugar, value added tax included, in the South Federal District amounted to 25,800 rubles per tonne, in the Central Federal District the figure stands at 25,900 rubles per tonne, while in the Volga Federal District sugar costs amounted to 26,600 per tonne.
