2012.03.19 | Belarus seeking new markets for food exports Belarus’ Prime Minister Mikhail Myasnikovich finds it necessary to diversify export destinations of Belarusian food products. The prime-minister proposed to diversify food export markets used as he spoke at a session of the Cabinet of Ministers on March 13. The premier informed that most Belarusian foods (89%) are sold in Russia, with the share of other CIS states at 6%. Sales outside the CIS make up only 5%. Myasnikovich said he finds food export distribution unbalanced and wants Belarusian food producers to diversify their export markets. Myasnikovich reminded Russia had adopted a food security doctrine intended to make the country self-sufficient in meat and poultry production within a five-year period. “We should keep that in mind and get integrated with food producers in Russia and Kazakhstan,” the premier said. In 2011 Belarusian agricultural exports totalled $4.1 billion. PRIME-TASS return |
