2012.03.19 | Belarus bans farm imports from Kyrgyzstan, Karelia, Spain’s Maestro de Oliva olives

Belarus imposed a ban, effective on March 1, on imports of certain farm products from Kyrgyzstan and Russia’s Karelia, and a consignment of Spain’s Maestro de Oliva olives.

The Ministry of Commerce of Belarus released the news on Tuesday with reference to the Agriculture Ministry’s veterinary control department.

The import ban on farm products from Kazakhstan was prompted by the outbreak of sheep-pox in the country, while Karelia registered a few cases of African swine fever in the town of Senezh on February 25, 2012.

Exports of Spain’s Maestro de Oliva olives were put on hold after Belarusian vets found yeast and mold fungi in test product samples.
